Wakayama Prefecture will showcase a "Wakayama Zone" within the Kansai Pavilion established by the Union of Kansai Governments. The Wakayama Zone exhibition emphasizes "the Finest Quality of Wakayama," featuring an artistic "space" centered around a massive video tower reminiscent of the ancient trees in the Kii Mountains. Through "movies" depicting Wakayama's natural landscapes, mythology, and history, along with "food" experiences that transcend mere taste to become art, visitors will discover Wakayama's appeal.

"The Finest Quality of Wakayama" is expressed within the Kansai Pavilion through the "Totem," a video installation evoking the giant trees of the Kii Mountains, finished with traditional Kishu Lacquerware. The bar counter and chairs for dining experiences are crafted from Kishu Wood. Various traditional crafts and materials, including Kishu Paulownia Chests, Koyaguchi Pile Fabric, and Koya Latticework, are incorporated throughout the space, condensing Wakayama's world-class charm into one remarkable venue.
Wakayama has embraced any forms of religions and cultures and allowed their fusion and harmonious coexistence. Drawing on its rich history, unique features, and majestic natural landscapes, the immersive visuals and sounds reflect the generosity of Wakayama. Take on a journey of rebirth inspired by the Kumano pilgrimage revolving around the axes of “past,” “present,” and “future” to reflect on Wakayama, the world, and yourself.
With a long history, the deep forests have blessed Wakayama with pure clear water and culinary heritages represented by the Citrus Tachibana, the origin of sweets found at Kitusmoto-jinja Shrine as well as soy sauce, an essential ingredient in Japanese cuisine. The land of Wakayama has nurtured its rich and generous food culture. Wakayama's artisans, who have inherited the traditions and techniques, meticulously create special pieces, giving light to the primitive forests.
