Togenkyo (Peach Blossom)

Wakayama is home to Arakawa no Momo, a variety of peach well-known throughout Japan. From the latter part of March, the peach trees in the orchards extending south of the Kinokawa River reach full bloom veiling the area in the sweet scent and color of their blossom.

The fields of peach trees that spread out southwards along the Kinokawa River veil the area in the color and sweet scent of peach blossom. In just one glance it is said you can lay your eyes upon 10,000 peach trees. The otherworldly view of the peach tree fields is listed by the Ministry of the Environment as one of the top 100 smellscapes in Japan.
