We hope you will spend a memorable time experiencing the nature and culture of Nanki-Kumano through a variety of activities.
Diving at Kushimoto Diving Park
Nanki-Kushimoto is one of the best diving spots in Honshu. Even in winter, the water temperature never drops below 15 degrees Celsius, and more than 100 species of coral live here. Two types of diving are available: boat diving in dynamic open ocean spots where migratory fish swim, and beach diving where you can relax and enjoy the unique underwater scenery of Kushimoto. There is an underwater course chain with numbered buoys, so you can dive without a guide. If you are with children, casual snorkeling is also recommended.
Rafting on the Kitayama River
Rafting is a summer tradition on the Kitayama River. Rafts are made of logs joined together to form a raft approximately 30 meters in length, and it takes about one hour to float down the raging river. While you can enjoy a leisurely view of the canyon when the current is slow, the thrill of the ride is unpredictable when the raft reaches the rapids. The exquisite control of the rafters is impressive! This is a "roller coaster of nature" that you can only experience here, so be sure to give it a try.
Canyoning on the Kitayama River
The Kitayama River is a perfect place for canyoning that deserves to be called an unexplored region. Slide down a natural waterslide made of rocks for a thrilling and exhilarating experience! In the canyon, which boasts outstanding clarity, take the plunge and dive into the waterfall basin.
There are several courses available, and guides will be on hand to assist you, so even first-time participants will feel at ease.
Heian Costume Experience
This is an experience plan that allows you to walk along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route wearing Heian-period costumes. The costumes are called "tsuboshozoku," which were worn by upper-class women during the Heian period (794-1192) when traveling or going out. The colorful costumes are not only for women, but also for men and children.
Why not take a memorable photo wearing a historical costume against the backdrop of Kumano's nature and historical buildings?
