Experience 900 Years of Tradition: Paint Your Own Negoro Lacquerware Spoon
Negoro-nuri is a traditional form of lacquerware with a history of around 900 years. It has been passed down in the Negoro area of Iwade City, Wakayama Prefecture.
It was originally made as everyday tableware for Buddhist monks.
In this workshop, you'll experience Negoro-nuri by painting a wooden spoon.
You can choose from several techniques, including single-color painting, layered painting, mother-of-pearl decoration, and free-style painting, and create your own design using a brush or cotton swab.
Before you begin, we'll introduce the history and techniques of Negoro-nuri using photographs and illustrations.
No previous experience is necessary, so beginners are welcome.
