Ultra Stationmaster Tama (Wakayama Electric Railway)

Tama is the white, black and brown calico cat appointed station master on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line.

Recognized as a symbol of and serving to promote both the Kishigawa Line and local trains, Tama was given the title of executive officer at Wakayama Electric Railway in 2009. She then rose through the ranks to senior executive officer in 2011 and assistant company president in 2013. Since passing away, Tama 2 (Nitama) has assumed the role of station master at Kishi Station, where Tama's memory lives on. From the small shrine on the platform, the original Tama continues to serve in spirit watching over both the station and its passengers.

With its design inspired by Tama, the station building at Kishi houses a cozy cafe and store. Passengers can also peek through the window of the station master's office there.

In addition to the omocha (toy), ichigo (strawberry) and Tama-themed trains currently operating, Wakayama Electric Railway will commence operation of a 4th special train in June, 2016—the Umeboshi Train.
