Benkei Festival
A festive mood sweeps over Tanabe for the Benkei Festival. It includes a firework display and a performance of The Tale of Benkei--a play telling of the Kumano Navy's involvement in a historic sea battle. There is also traditional dance with nearly 1,000 performers dancing in yosakoi and benkei geta styles.
