Yunomine Onsen

Yunomine Onsen is a legendary hot spring hamlet in the Hongu Onsen-kyo area. It dates back 1800 years and served as a rest stop for pilgrims on their way to the Kumano Sanzan shrines. Legend has it that the water of Tsuboyu, a tiny bath in the centre of the hamlet, has healing properties and helped cure a sick samurai. Buses from the Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine make stops here.
